COM 102 Ethics of Ambition

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course explores the ethics of ambition. The course explores a deeper understanding of a christian leader who is called to lead from among members of his/her community and serves as one among equals (though given higher responsibilities to work with and for the community). From this understanding, christian leaders cannot claim total autonomy in the kind of ministry they perform (as seen in the case of other professionals).

COURSE PURPOSE:

The purpose of the course is to help students develop ministerial ethics that sees christian ministry as community based. Those who come to church are drawn to religious community because they are looking for wholeness and this can only be found when that community is open to God who is at the center. Balanced ethics of ambition for christian leaders should not be seen outside this community. Students are exposed codes of and expectations that are sensitive to the needs of others as opposed to the self. Students are challenged to set their ambitions beyond "professional-client" perspective.
